Just a few thoughts on acne, Accutane and dish soap

While some speculate it may be a publicity stunt for a recent campaign, super model Kendall Jenner posted on her blog several weeks ago about her struggles with acne.
According to Jenner, her face broke out starting in middle school—and progressed into her high school years. In her post, Jenner says, "It completely ruined my self-esteem. I wouldn’t even look at people when I talked to them. I felt like such an outcast; when I spoke, it was with my hand covering my face.”
The most important thing to take out of this new acne revelation is that acne does in fact affect majority of the population. While severe acne is not something everyone struggles with, it is something most people have from one time to another.
Finding a cure for your acne can be a long and drawn out process, one that leads to frustration and hopelessness—but Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Jenner even says so. “"It wasn't anything that happened overnight," she says. "Even after things started to clear up, it took a solid amount of time to be okay with my skin and gain back my confidence. I realized that it's a part of life for some people, and it doesn't define who you are."
My blog may be focused on Accutane, but that isn’t necessarily the right step for everyone to take. I call it the miracle drug, as have many others who have used it and seen its results, but the side effects can scare anyone, including me, from trying it for a while.
Accutane was my last resort to cure my acne—but a simple dermatologist appointment and a dosage of Doxycycline could be enough to get your skin headed in the right direction.
I know I’ve said it before across my blog posts and on my social media sites—but the real reason I’ve written my blog is to show the world that acne is everywhere. It’s not pretty, it’s not something to flaunt, but it is a part of who most people are for at least a portion of their life. Acne doesn’t have to define us, but it is part of us.
Therefore, the point of my blog truly is to show the progression throughout my Accutane treatment, and break the stigma that acne carries. I hope to help someone, even just one person. If I give them more confidence because my acne is worse than theirs, I’m happy. Or if I give them confidence to carry on when their acne is as severe or worse than mine is, I’m over the moon.
For most of us, there is an intense insecurity that shadows a part of our lives—whether it be acne or not. I think it’s important to step away from those shadows and into the sun.
